About Us
Veterinary X-rays was started in 1960.
Pat Dorrell, a radiographer, who worked for the x-ray division of what became GEC, recognised a trend for vets to have an in house x-ray facility and so formed the first company in the UK to provide specifically for this growing new market sector.
Working from premises in Seer Green in Buckinghamshire, the company took on its first manufacturer agency in 1978, that of Mikasa X-ray of Tokyo, providing Veterinary X-rays with the most technically advanced and reliable x-ray units that simply changed the UK veterinary market completely.
Products such as the Mighty Atom and Atom 90 x-ray units were tailored specifically for the profession, and their popularity was such that they became virtually standard issue for a huge number of practices.
Pats son Steve joined the company in 1985, and Veterinary X-rays continued to grow, launching Fujifilm to the profession, and providing a more comprehensive x-ray service to customers.
In 1997, Veterinary X-rays were delighted to be given the opportunity to buy out one of their long time suppliers, a medical x-ray company, Everything X-ray Ltd, who were and are the number one name in medical x-ray accessories. Started in 1910, this fantastic company was moved from its premises in Watford to join Veterinary X-rays in Seer Green.
Bursting at the seams by 2002, a move to new premises in High Wycombe was inevitable, and was completed by the end of that year.
In March 2010 the company purchased larger premises again in the more rural surroundings of Princes Risborough. As well as offering much more space, the move provided a more rural and pleasant working environment for all members of the growing company.
In July 2010, Veterinary X-rays acquired the UK distributorship for Champion Photochemistry and reformed the group of companies to create VXR Imaging Ltd, with three separate divisions for Veterinary X-rays, Everything X-ray and Champion Distribution.
Today, in 2011, Veterinary X-rays still has its portable x-ray units provided by Mikasa x-ray, and now provides CR digital systems (and still x-ray film) from Fujifilm and DR systems from SoundEklin. It provides a nationwide service to thousands of customers, who rely on Veterinary X-rays for their x-ray systems, maintenance and advice.
With x-ray equipment installed at thousands of locations around the world, from the Antarctic to Dubai, our simple aim since 1960 has been to provide the profession with the best possible products, and the best possible service.
